Description
Every barrel in our maturation warehouses at Het Anker is carefully monitored and regularly tasted. From time to time, the family comes across exceptional expressions, which are specially bottled for enthusiasts under the ‘Finest Selection’-label.
For this edition, we have selected some exclusive coffee stout barrels from our microbrewery Batteliek, which were originally used for aging Gouden Carolus Single Malt. The total aging of nearly 7 years results in a whisky with a subtle character and pronounced notes of dark chocolate, roasted hazelnut, vanilla, and malt. The full-bodied coffee finish tastes lightly sweet with biscuit undertones.
Egerton refers to the Egerton manuscript of 1677, where the term ‘stout’ was used for the first time. This term was then used for stronger porters, a dark sweet beer. Today, it refers to beers with more heavily roasted malts with coffee accents.
